Can I claim tuition on my taxes even if they're being paid by a student loan?

In 2009, I was a full-time college student. I was billed for $18,000 tuition charges. I have student loans through Sallie Mae, however, that cover those costs that I just began paying back. When I am doing my taxes, am I still allowed to claim the $18,000 tuition that was charged to me?
