Please help i have been reciving emils that i have won a certain amount of money how do I know that is true?

I have recived many emails saying that i have won a certain amount of money requesting me to send my name and address how do i know that this is not fradulent. in their email they also write their phone numbers and address. But unfortunately I cannot call the because its an international number and I dont have money to call. I am afraid that they might send me a fradulent chqeue and i might get arrested while trying to cach it. How do I found out weather this people are legit? Please help me.
