Getting rid of period cramps in the summer.?

Im 17 and I've had my period now for 7 years, but in the past 3-4 months my cramps have been unbearably painful, I've been talking to my mom and she says that it's normal and that I don't really need to worry, but for them to be hurting this bad is killing me! When they've gotten bad before I throw on a heating pad but its summer and way to hot for a heating pad. Midol, Ibuprofen and Pamprin haven't helped at all, is there anything I can do? Should I go see a doctor?
